My most FAVORITE month of the year has arrived! I'm a Taurus so that probably has a lot to do with it! I always love the beautiful flowers.
May marks the transition from the dry season to the rainy season in Costa Rica and the weather is a bit of a gamble. Some rain in May, a few more rainy days through June and so on until sometime in October or November it's pouring all the time and then suddenly it's over in December or January.
This year we are experiencing El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon that causes drought and very hot conditions. We've only experienced rain on about 3 occasions. Water rationing has already affected several communities in the country. So far, not ours.
Our grass looks like a dry bunch of hay in spots but the flowers in our garden have begun to bloom anyway.
We harvested our first crop of 'American" sweet potatoes. I was a proud mama. We got about 12.

Attended the April meeting of Blooms, short for "Bloom Where You Are Planted". The goal is to provide support & friendship to English-speaking women new (or not so new) to Costa Rica. Blooms meets for brunch, usually at a member's home, at 9:30 a.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.
This month I introduced my friend Kate.
